Five displays draw most of the crowds in Kansas City. Three are confirmed for 2026 already. If you only do one, we'd pick Christmas in the Park on a weeknight, and it's free.
The Northland drive-thru, over a mile of synchronized lights set to music, in its seventh year. There's a Christmas pickle scavenger hunt along the route. It opens November 4, earlier than anything else on this list.
A free drive-thru through the Frank White softball complex and the Longview Lake campground, over a million lights and more than 200 animated displays, all built locally. It's in its 39th year. Exit donations go to 37 local charities.
A walk through the gardens lit by luminaries, with gnome and fairy villages and live music. Traditional walk weekends are Nov 27–28, Dec 4–5, 11–12 and 18–19. Adults-only candlelight strolls are Dec 3, 10 and 17, Electric Glow nights Dec 20–23 and 26, and Glow Cart tours Nov 29 – Dec 2.
A huge indoor tree and a walk-through holiday village in the Grand Hall, plus a mini train, holiday movies and planetarium shows. It's the indoor option, which matters in a Kansas City December.
Fifteen blocks of the Country Club Plaza outlined in lights, a tradition for over 90 years. The switch flips Thanksgiving night, then the lights run every evening until 3am through mid-January. It's the one everyone in Kansas City means.
Two more that cost nothing, on top of Christmas in the Park and the Plaza above. Lenexa's stays lit the longest, into mid-January.
Lenexa lights up Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park on December 4 with Santa, the Dickens Carolers and free cocoa, then the lights stay up through January 18. That's the latest anything on this list runs.
A light show synchronized to holiday music and movie themes, broadcast on 90.5 Rose FM. You park in the Farmstead lot and watch from the car, so bring cocoa and blankets.
Thirty to sixty miles out. Powell Gardens is confirmed for 2026. Lawrence and Topeka haven't posted yet.
Thousands of lights along an outdoor path through the botanical garden, with a Winter Holiday Train and a 1980s-themed exhibit. It's select dates only, and the popular ones sell out.
Topeka's biggest drive-thru, through the Lake Shawnee campground, in its 28th year. It's the main fundraiser for TARC, which serves people with developmental disabilities. Last year it was closed the first three Mondays of December.
A ticketed drive-thru with synchronized lights at the Youth Sports Complex, run to benefit local non-profits. Timed slots, so the queue stays short.
One-night events in the suburbs. None have posted 2026 dates yet. We list the last ones we saw so you can plan around the same weekend.
In 2024 it was Dec 6, 5:30–8:30pm at the Mission Market site. Tree and menorah lighting, s'mores, vendors. Free.
In 2024 it was Saturday Dec 6 at City Hall. Santa, a petting zoo and a holiday market, then the mayor's tree lighting. Free.
Last year Nov 22, 4–6pm. Live bands, food trucks, the Grinch, then Santa lights the tree and the crowns. Free.
At Paragon Star, dates not posted. Bring a new, unwrapped toy for Operation Toy Soldier. Free, free parking.
