The big ones

Six displays draw most of the crowds around Indy. None have verified 2026 dates yet. If you only do one, we'd pick Winterlights at Newfields on a weeknight, with a drive-thru on the way home.

Last year: Nov 21 – Jan 4 Admission, under 5 free, reserved parking $20 Michigan Road, 4 mi north

Nearly two million lights across The Garden, with lights dancing overhead, Dickens villages and gingerbread inside the Lilly House, firepits with s'mores and a Wintermarket. It's the one most people in Indy mean when they say the lights.

Buy tickets ahead. Parking is capped, so busy nights sell out. Reserved parking is $20 a car; free parking overflows to the Interchurch Center on W 42nd Street, about a ten-minute walk.

Christmas Nights of Lights at the Brickyard 2026 dates not announced

Last year: November – December Ticketed Indiana State Fairgrounds, 4 mi north

A drive-thru at the State Fairgrounds with the lights synchronized to Christmas music on your car radio. It's the closest drive-thru to downtown.

Fill the tank. The route is long enough that they ask for at least half a tank before you enter. Weekends back up, so go early in the evening.

Christmas at the Zoo Last year's details

Last year: Nov 22 – Jan 4 Admission, parking $10 (members free) W Washington Street, 1 mi west

The first zoo in the country to do holiday lights, running since 1967. Lights across the grounds, Santa's Magic Cottage, festive food and animal encounters, with the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir singing carols on select nights.

Parking fills. Construction closed lots last year, and busy days overflow to the South Lot on Harding Street with a shuttle. Sensory-friendly evenings were December 3 and 10 last year.

The Holiday Stroll at Kelsay Farms Last year's details

Last year: Nov 18 – Dec 23 Admission Whiteland, 14 mi south

A walk-through of lights and lit trees on a working farm south of Indy, with campfires, hot cocoa and a live nativity. It's the walking alternative to the drive-thrus.

Bring a thermos. Cocoa is sold there but cools fast by the fire. Weekends get busy after dark, so arrive at opening.

A Merry Prairie Holiday at Conner Prairie Last year's details

Last year: Nov 28 – Dec 23 Fri–Sun, plus Dec 22–23 Admission Fishers, 16 mi northeast

Thousands of lights across the grounds, Prairietown done up for a historic holiday, a 3D projection-mapping show, ice skating on Frosty's Rink and Santa's North Pole Village. It's the most complete night out on this list.

Weekends near Christmas mean lines. The projection show and Santa's village queue first. Check the schedule for the Magic Lantern Crankie Show and Blitzen's Bandstand before you go. Most of it is outdoors.

Danville Winterland Holiday Light Show Last year's details

Last year: Nov 17 – Dec 28 6–9pm Sun–Thu, 6–10pm Fri–Sat; closed Thanksgiving and Christmas Admission, less on weekdays Danville, 19 mi west

A drive-thru run by the Danville Chamber of Commerce, 19 miles west of downtown. It opened earlier than anything else on this list last year, November 17, and runs every night but two.

Weeknights are cheaper. Admission drops Sunday through Thursday and the line is shorter. Weekends near Christmas, arrive before 6.

A lit walking path in Greenwood and a drive-thru on the Nickel Plate Trail in Fishers. Neither has posted 2026 dates.

Greenwood Lighted Trail Last year's details

Last year: Dec 7 – 31 Free Greenwood Amphitheater, 11 mi south

A free lit path around the Greenwood Amphitheater. It's a stroll, not a show, and that's the appeal. Park at the community center lot.

Weeknights. Fewer people on the path. It's all outdoors, so check the forecast.

Free Nickel Plate Trail at E 106th Street, 14 mi northeast

A free drive-thru along the Nickel Plate Trail with the lights synced to music on your car radio. Free means a line. Go early in the evening or on a weeknight.

Worth the drive

Thirty-five to fifty miles out. The Mounds State Park drive-thru is the only one confirmed for 2026, and Frankfort's million-light drive-thru is free.

Nights of Lights at Mounds State Park Confirmed 2026

Nov 27 – Dec 27, 2026 Fri–Sun 6–9pm Admission, benefits Friends of Mounds Anderson, 37 mi northeast

A drive-thru through the state park, run by the Friends of Mounds State Park, and one of the few displays around Indy already confirmed for 2026. Three nights a week only. Campers can reserve a site and decorate it as part of the route.

Arrive at 6. Weekends are the only nights it runs, so the line builds fast after dark.

Festival of Lights at The Commons, Columbus Last year's details

Last year: December Free Columbus, 40 mi south

A free lights display at The Commons in downtown Columbus, run by the Columbus Park Foundation. Their page says little, so we won't either until it does. Go after dusk.

Frankfort Festival of Lights at TPA Park Last year's details

Annually during the holiday season (specific dates not provided for 2025, but typically runs through December). Free Frankfort, 41 mi northwest

A free drive-thru with over a million LEDs and animated displays, music on 96.9 FM, Santa handing out candy canes, and a concession stand with soup and hot chocolate. For a free show 40 miles out, it's the one we'd pick.

Bring the dog. Pets are welcome in the car, and Santa may have a treat for them. Weeknights are quieter.

Canopy of Lights, Bloomington Last year's details

Last year: Nov 28 – Jan 1 Free Monroe County Courthouse Square, 46 mi south

Over 280,000 lights strung over the courthouse square in downtown Bloomington, switched on in one late-November ceremony that includes the Light Up a Life tribute for Hospice. Then it stays up through New Year's Day.

Get there early for the lighting. The square fills for the ceremony. Bring a thermos.

Christmas at the Seiberling, Kokomo Last year's details

Last year: Nov 30 – Dec 31 Admission, under 5 free Kokomo, 50 mi north

The Seiberling Mansion decorated top to bottom from the Saturday after Thanksgiving through the end of the year, with an opening-night lighting ceremony and ticketed candlelight tours. It's a historic-house visit more than a light show, so pair it with something else if you're making the drive.

Thursday and Friday evenings are free. Free evening hours run on select Thursdays and Fridays and are quieter than opening night.

Enchanted Luminara Walk at Minnetrista, Muncie Last year's details

Last year: Dec 5 – 6 Free Muncie, 51 mi northeast

Three miles of lights around Minnetrista over two nights, with live music, theatre, crafts, a barrel train for kids and a holiday artisan market. Free, which for three miles of lights is rare.

Bring cash. Food and the artisan market take cards, but cash is faster. Arrive early; it's a lot of ground to cover.

Tree lightings and one-night events

Westfield already has its 2026 date. The rest we list at last year's so you can plan around the same weekend.

Westfield in Lights, Grand Junction Plaza

Saturday, Dec 5, 2026, 3–6pm, with the tree lighting at 6. Live performances, local vendors, Santa photos and ice ribbon skating. Free shuttle from the Westfield library 2:30–7pm. Free to attend.

Last year Saturday, Dec 6, in Zionsville. Lights, crafts, campfires with s'mores, Santa and the cows. Ticketed with timed slots that sell out; under 2 free.
